Project Title
The Cost of Care: Enslaved Women and Care Work in Virginia, 1790-1860
Project Description
Keiara’s dissertation investigates how enslaved care labor contributed to the refashioning of race, gender, and class in Virginia from 1790 to 1860. This study centers on the commodification of care and the inextricable links between state-making, capitalism, and social organization during the early national and antebellum periods.
