Strangers at Play: Migrant Urban Leisure and Social Life in the Making of 20th Century Accra

Project Description

This dissertation conceptualizes Nima as an important site of a popular pan-African consciousness in Accra driven by intra-Africa migrants’ social imaginations which reflected a spirit of global Black and subaltern solidarity. Drawing on migrants’ narratives, visual and material culture, it sheds new light on grassroots pan-Africanism in Africa.
