Project Title
Living by the Sea(side): Water and Land in Afro-Caribbean Women's Decolonial Poetics, 1990s-2023
Project Description
Working at the intersections of Black, Caribbean, and ecocritical/ ecofeminist thought, “Living by the Sea(side): Water and Land in Afro-Caribbean Women’s Decolonial Poetics” examines how twentieth century and contemporary Afro-Caribbean women reenvision the sea and the seaside – historic geographies of racial captivity, displacement, dispossession and annihilation – as spaces of possibility and freedom that unsettle Eurocentric, patriarchal divisions of power such as male/female, white/non-white, body/mind, matter/spirit and nature/culture.
