M. Giulia Fabi is an Associate Professor of American Literature at the University of Ferrara, Italy. She is a scholar of nineteenth- and early twentieth-century African American literature, known for her book Passing and the Rise of the African American Novel.  She has edited the Penguin Classics edition William Wells Brown’s Clotel, a series of Italian translations of African American novels, and the bilingual edition of Frederick Douglass’s 1845 Narrative. She is also the co-editor of Nella Larsen’s Letters, 1917-1935 and Barbara Christian’s New Black Feminist Criticism, 1985-2000. Her work on Frances E. Harper, Sutton E. Griggs, Nella Larsen, and pre-Harlem Renaissance Black speculative fiction has appeared in journals, volumes and major companions.
