Project Title

Messy Kinships: Poetics of Ambivalence in Afro-Caribbean Feminist Writing

Project Description

My dissertation examines Afro-Caribbean literary representations of kinship and family from 1959 to 2023. I argue that Afro-Caribbean diasporic feminist writers employ poetics of ambivalence through their depiction of “messy kinships” as liminal spaces of both violence and otherwise possibility for (post)colonial Afro-Caribbean women and girls.
