Julie Saville, a leading scholar of slavery, emancipation, and plantation societies in the U.S. and the Caribbean, transitioned in December 2023. The renowned scholar was one of the first Woodson fellows in the class of 1982. Many of us are deeply indebted to her for her pathbreaking scholarship and generous mentorship.
