Nemata Blyden, Armstead L. Robinson Professor of 19th Century African American History and Chair of the Department of African American and African Studies, UVA. Author of African Americans and Africa: A New History (Yale, 2019) and West Indians in West Africa, 1808–1880: The Diaspora in Reverse (Rochester, 2000). Her current project is a family biography that tells the history of the Atlantic world through the eyes of a Black Atlantic family.
