The Carter G. Woodson Institute co-sponsored a recent event about the state of African American and African Studies departments across the nation.

The event "WHAT WE STAND TO LOSE: A National Forum on Black Studies Under Fire On the Increasing Significance and Need for Black Studies" was organized by leading scholars in the field who have been directly affected by the dismantling of African American Studies departments and programs.

These scholars include: Dr. Edmund T. Gordon (Founding Chair Emeritus, UT-Austin African and African Diaspora Studies), Dr. Ashante Reese (UT-Austin), Dr. Andrea J. Queeley (Florida International University), Dr. Michale Brandon McCormack (Chair, Pan-African Studies, University of Louisville) and other invited speakers. The forum will be moderated by Farah Jasmine Griffin, University Professor at Columbia, and Jafari Sinclaire Allen, Director of IRAAS.
